Prof. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, M.D., PhD – Scientific Advisor, Host
Director of Sabri Ulker Center for Metabolic Research at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health; Associate Member, Broad Institute; Associate Member, Harvard Stem Cell Institute. The major interest of Hotamisligil laboratory is to study the regulatory pathways, which control glucose and lipid metabolism. Hotamisligil’s biochemical and genetic studies focus on signal transduction using cultured mammalian cells as well as transgenic animals to identify specific abnormalities in these pathways, which are involved in human metabolic and inflammatory diseases including obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease, atherosclerosis, and asthma.
Didem Demirbaş Ph.D – Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard Medical School
Dr. Demirbaş is working on the rare genetic disease galactosemia , an inborn error of carbohydrate metabolism in the laboratory of Dr. Gerard Berry at Genetics Division in Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Demirbas is developing a stem cell model to understand the molecular mechanism behind pathophysiology of galactosemia.
